ARLINGTON -- Happy Days Playschool invites the community to join them at the Mack Performing Art Center in Arlington on Sunday, March 21, at 2 p.m. for a performance of "The Snowmaiden" with No Strings Marionette Co. Nineteen exquisitely hand-crafted marionettes are featured in one of Russia's most beloved folk tales. As Father Frost spreads Winter throughout the land, he comes across a most amazing sight. A perfect little maiden sculpted entirely of snow! Mother Spring breathes life into the figure, making dreams come true for a childless couple who embrace the Snowmaiden with a love as deep and wide as Old Mother Russia herself. Can love sustain this child of winter as the seasons change? This kind and gentle hour long performance is appropriate for audiences of all ages. The performance is open to the public with donations accepted. "The Snowmaiden" performance is being sponsored through the Arts Enrichment Program at Happy Days Playschool, with a grant from Southern Vermont Arts Center Jonathan Levin Outreach Program. MIDDLETOWN — William "Kip" Moore has always loved the performing arts — and soon working in them will become his full-time job. Starting March 29, Moore will become the performing arts director for the new Ray and Joan Kroc Center of the Salvation Army in Dayton. For many years, performing and staging theater shows has been a ministry for Moore, and this new opportunity "was kind of like a blessing. This is a dream come true. This will be the first time my dream becomes a job," he said. The new facility, at the corner of Keowee and Webster streets in Dayton, has a sanctuary/theater that can host performing arts events. Moore's first order of business will be to coordinate a summer theater camp for kids, he said. The activities there will be open to people throughout the area, and not just in Dayton, he said. "I believe he's so fully qualified to begin this," Maj. Tom Duperree, a commander at Dayton's Salvation Army chapter, said of Moore. Duperree has known Moore for eight years, through a former Salvation Army employee who was friends with Moore. "When I heard him sing, I fell in love with him right away," Duperree said. Consequently, Moore began to perform at some Salvation Army events, including the groundbreaking of the facility. "The passion that has been in his heart for so long is to have a full-time ministry in performance. He was the only person I thought of (for the job)," Duperree said. Moore has performed with a number of local organizations, including Middletown Lyric Theatre, and said he will continue to perform in the Middletown area as time allows. | Shen Yun ‘something you don't see every day’ - The Epoch Times Posted: 18 Mar 2010 08:45 AM PDT And the audience reciprocated by offering up their appreciation: Shen Yun played to another full house and were celebrated by the audience with a standing ovation and two curtain calls. Among the audience were Mr. and Mrs. Mark Larsen and their friend Mr. Tyrone Pibble who had been intrigued by the information about this world class show coming to Ogden. Mr. Larsen and Mr. Pibble work as software engineers, and Mrs. Larsen is a real estate agent. They were delighted they had attended the show. Mr. Pibble had looked forward to enjoying an expression of a different culture and was especially looking forward to any folk dances he might see. Mr. Larsen found the show unique in all aspects but concentrated his attention on the orchestra: "We haven't seen something like this before; it's very unique and the orchestra is doing great." Mr. Larsen thought the orchestra was so excellent that he said it sounded like a sound track. While Mr. Larsen concentrated on the music, Mr. Pibble, who also acknowledged the wonderful music, was struck by the digital backdrops which are coordinated so that the movement in the background corresponds with the movement and action on stage. "The music is just awesome, the backgrounds are incredible, they're very vivid, very colorful. You feel like you're there. They did a really good job," he said. Similarly, the costumes and dance movements had a feeling of synchronicity, "The costumes are really cool and I think the dancing, the sequencing are very original," Mr. Tyrone added. He went on to mention a certain dance that all three enjoyed, "The Flowing Silk." The dancers use their sleeves of silk to create what Chinese call "water sleeves," a favorite in classical Chinese dance. The movement of the sleeves creates an image of rippling water. "I liked the [water] sleeves, the flowing and the synchronized movements when they are all in a row," Mr. Tyrone continued. Mr. Pibble added, "The dance and the costumes looked really nice. I liked the way they are able to move to flow together." Mr. Pibble would certainly recommend it to his friends, "it's well worth coming to see." "I would highly recommend it; it would be worth traveling to get here to see it," Mrs. Larsen chimed in. "This is something you don't see every day, it's great and it's well orchestrated" was Mr. Larsen's summation. Shen Yun Performing Arts will present one more show at Perry's Egyptian Theater in Ogden on March 18. The Epoch Times is a proud sponsor of Shen Yun Performing Arts.
